X-posted a few places - majority under the cut to avoid annoyance.

Hi all - I hope it's appropriate to post this here. Seems like it should be, but I always get a little nervous. ;)

I wanted to let you know that I've recently launched a new project that I'm very excited about!

The new project is called "The Fat Experience Project." and you can view it here:

x-posted to appropriate communites - just this one time:

Hey all!

It's time to belly up! I've just launched:

http://www.BelliesAreBeautiful.Com!

What's the #1 body part that most folks are the most heavily ashamed of? What does every weight loss commercial focus on? When you see a no-headed fat person on the news with a voiceover talking about the 'obesity epidemic' - what body part are they showing?

BELLIES!

It's time to show our bellies the love!!! So pull up your shirts, pull down your pants, take a picture and send it in!! All shapes, all sizes, all colors, all genders --

BELLIES ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!

(Please repost if you like) :)

Hey - YOU!

do you have grant-writing experience? Wanna help out FatGirl Speaks even though you live in another city? We need you!

Our local feminist bookstore unanimously approved our request to be our fiscal sponsor for the 2006 show, so now we need to start the grant-writing process. We need to find grants that are applicable, apply and see if we can get some funds coming in ASAP so we know how much $$ we have to spend.

Help help help!

FatGirl Speaks - Portland, OR
- sorry for the x-posting, just trying to get the word out -

Hiya! My name is Stacy and I and a few co-organizers are putting on a show here in Portland, Oregon on May 3rd, 2003 at the Hollywood Theatre. I'll paste the information below, but I just wanted to let people know that we really need people to get involved on a performance level. We need spoken word and performance artists, musicians, speakers... I'd love to hear from anyone who is within driving distance of the show that would like to get involved. We don't have much $$, so we can't offer to fly people in at this point.
Thanks for your time, and please pass this information on if you know of others who might be interested!
----------------------
FatGirl Speaks; a Celebration of Size, Self and Sexuality -- Saturday, May 3rd, 2003 at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, Oregon, from 4pm to 10pm. Founded on progressive feminist principles of size positivity and the promotion of natural body diversity, this evening festival will energize, educate, empower, uplift and celebrate women of size and our allies! FatGirl Speaks will feature political and educational workshops, a FatGirl fashion show, an evening of spoken word/performance art, live music and fun extras like scale smashing and a FatGirl kissing booth!

In addition to the immediate benefits of attending the event, our conference program will be presented in 'zine format and will serve as a long-term resource guide with both local and national resources for living large and loud!

For more information on getting involved, please email me at fatgirlspeaks@technodyke.net

Thanks!
Stacy

after a friend asked me how she can be a fat ally and how to really be fat positive, i realised how badly we really need more fat positive sources. i realised i do not know any finnish books or zines (hardly any others either) that dealed with fatphobia or fat freedom, i understood that i should be doing them.

so i am thinking about putting together a comp zine about fat oppression and empowerment, which i would hope to later turn into a real book (if a publisher would be interested). i will first make it in english, but later translate it into finnish later (and as many other languanges as possible!). this zine will be targetted to fat people, their allies and also for non-fats, in the purpose of smashing evil myths concerning fat and fat people. to educate non-fats about the issue of fatphobia. i am also very interested in your stories of personal fat liberation, coming in terms with your fat and how you promote fat positivity / fat activism.

all people are welcome to contribute; women, men, genderqueer, transexuals and all others who are fat, chubby or suffer from fat phobia. i will also be happy to print writings by fat allies if they really manage to impress me (but mostly this is for fat/chubby only)! people of different countries, races, backgrounds, sexualities, sexes and identities are encouraged, i want as many views as possible.

this is quite a diverse topic. you may submit anything from personal stories of fat liberation or experiences with fat oppression to analysis of fat phobia & fat theory (for example, i will write about my own personal revolution with coming in terms with my body, experiences as a fat femme, and also analyse wether or not "riot grrrl" is a safe space for fat women).. poems, art and tummy love photos are also more than welcome. i will not print anything fatphobic, i want the zine to be safe space for fatties.

the deadline for the zine is 15th may 2003. i hope you will contribute! :) please email me to riikka_ladybomb@hotmail.com to make a contribute or for questions. all contributers will get a free copy!

FUCK. deaths and the left overs sufferingal aftermath.
Start: my grandfather, Paul Smith [yes, those of you involved or interested in the music industry do recognize the name. he was the president of sony for twenty something years] died yesterday. Tonight at dinner someone brought it up. We had guests over for New Years and so my parents were talking about how generous he was with his money and his compassion. I, ask a question, which was the stupidest thing I could of done....rather, the outcome was the stupidest thing.
me:"So if Grandpa Paul died, all the money goes to Grandma Nita even though they are divorced, right? But do his children get any of that now, or only when Grandma Nita passes away too?"
father:"Well, David, Susan, Jeff, and uh.. what's the other sisters name, the lesbo one?-"
mother:diane.
father:yeah, that's that lesbo's name, can never keep it straight. [verbal irony to the fullest]
-striking silence as i glare at my father-
noelle:she doesn't like when you say those terms, daddy.
father:she's just sensetive to nothing. all that liberal bullshit she involves herself with. it's nothing mean or anything, i'm not discriminati-
me:it's not "anything", you're right. it's something. i don't like hearing discrimination against myself either.
-fa l l i n g silence. -
me:gets up from table and leaves.
fuck. i'm so fucking dead. my dad is so anti-gay and it's bullshit. ::bangs head on keyboard::

Current Mood: nervous. contemplative. fuct.
